Before I began making my own pomades the only products that gave me the performance that my thick hair needed was Sweet Georgia Brown. The Red tin was my go to for Michigan Winters, and then a combination of the Blue tin with a topper of the Red tin for shine for the hotter months. Water-based products wash out easily with just water, give a lighter feel, and typically provide a cleaner, more natural finish. Oil-based products are thicker, longer-lasting, and give you that old-school grip and shine, but they’ll take a bit more effort (and shampoo) to remove. One's for convenience, the other's for commitment.
